Weekly Newsletter

A Note from Rev'd Heather

Dear St George’s,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you were able to make the most of the past two weeks. Two Holiday Wednesdays in a row is a rare treat!

This week, it is important to draw our attention once again to those most vulnerable in our communities. We are officially in the first Heat Wave of the summer.

To that end, the Quebec Health Ministry is asking people to take precautions during the hot weather:

  • Drink six to eight glasses of water a day before feeling thirsty;
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages or caffeine;
  • Spend at least two hours a day in an air-conditioned or cool place;
  • Take at least one cool shower or bath, or cool your skin with wet towels;
  • Limit physical activity;
  • Wear light clothes.

A reminder that signs of heat illness include:

  • Swelling
  • Rash
  • Cramps
  • Fainting
  • heat exhaustion
  • heat stroke
  • and the worsening of some health conditions.

Please be careful and if you find yourself in a position to help others out with a glass of cool water - keep in mind our Gospel reading from last Sunday:

“whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple -- truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.” (Matthew 10:42). It’s important we take these words of Jesus literally this week. Not everyone has easy access to a cool place or 6-8 glasses of water.

Yours in Christ,

H+

Weekly Newsletter Sower at Sunset, Vincent Van Gogh, 1888 A Note from Rev'd John This Sunday's readings remind us that the deepest questions of faith are not simply about right beliefs or right actions, but about the orientation of the human heart. Esau's impulsive bargain, Paul's assurance that we are called to live by the Spirit, and Jesus' parable of the sower all invite us to ask: What is shaping our deepest desires? Our culture often assumes that the answer to dissatisfaction is to...

Weekly Newsletter A Note from Rev'd Heather Dear St George’s, I would be remiss not to begin this newsletter by acknowledging the collective grief and outrage that enveloped our city this week. On Monday three people died in Cote-de-neige due to gun violence. Our prayers go out to everyone affected by this horrific incident. To the bystanders, to the families of those who died, and to all those whose fragile sense of safety have been scarred. The celebrations of this year's Jean-Baptiste Day,...
