A Note from Rev'd Heather

Dear St George’s,

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to the Cathedral last Sunday in support of John Graham’s Ordination to the Priesthood. It was a beautiful service and reception - to which our Guild contributed generously.

There is a lot of excitement at St George’s this week as the Rev’d Ben Crosby moves forward with his new role at St Simeon’s in Lachute, Ms Kelsey Cunningham joins our team as a Theological Student, and the Rev’d Dr John Graham’s duties shift to reflect his Ordination to the Priesthood. Congratulations all around!

The changes are mirrored in the fall weather and can - should we let them - act as an invitation to reflect. Our Epistle reading for this upcoming Sunday asks us to guard our hearts by engaging in the discipline of focusing on the good; not by spiritually bypassing all of the difficult aspects of life, but instead by placing them in their wider context. God is good and therefore we are not alone in our difficulties. God is good and therefore we know that endings also mean new beginnings. God is good and therefore we can see that even in the darkest moments, that this world of ours was created out of love - that we were created out of love - a love so strong that God himself thinks we’re worth dying for, worth conquering sin and death for, worth coming back for, living for, and sending His Holy Spirit for.

In gratitude,

H+

Introducing Kelsey Cunningham!

We have a new Theology Student joining our team! Kelsey Cunningham is a PhD student in theology at Trinity College, University of Toronto, and is currently completing ministry formation in the Diocese of Montreal. Her research focuses on the theology of the diaconate, with particular interests in relationality and ecology. Before beginning her theological studies, she worked in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine with a focus on women’s health.

If you see Kelsey around, please introduce yourself and make her feel welcome!

Harvest Sunday: Soup Sunday!

This Sunday is our monthly Soup Sunday! We invite you to join us in Parish Hall following the service today for soup and community fellowship.

Blessing of the Animals

Want your pet to receive a blessing? We are celebrating St. Francis day with a blessing of the animals this coming Wednesday during our midday service. We look forward to welcoming your furry friends at 12:15 on the 14th!

Our Fall Market is Here!

Our Fall Market will be open in our upstairs space the 17th of October from 10AM to 9PM. We are thrilled to be collaborating with a dozen local Montreal artisans who will be selling their wares! Proceeds of renting out our space to artists are going towards St George’s own funding, helping to cover our own expenses and ensure we can continue our ministry and community work.

Weekly Newsletter A Note from Rev'd John "The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone." One of the most powerful lines in this Sunday’s Gospel. Most people eventually experience rejection: a relationship ends, a career closes, an institution no longer values us, our abilities diminish, or the identity on which we built our lives comes to an end. This Sunday’s reading from Matthew does not tell us that rejection itself is good. It offers something more hopeful: rejection...

Weekly Newsletter Moses, John August Swanson A Note from Rev'd Holly This note falls during the Season of Creation in the Anglican liturgical cycle. Never heard of that? That’s because it is new! It began back in the late 1990s when the Orthodox Church set aside a day of prayer for creation. And over the years, it has been extended into several weeks, starting at the beginning of September, with Rosh Hashana, the Jewish celebration of the creation of the world. It continues through to 4...
